First Quarter Report, 2007:

The Arkansas Governor's Advisory Committee met the eight of March in Little Rock.

The committee consists of the Corp. of Eng, Fish and Game, Coast Guard  Aux, State  Park and various selected Marine owners through out the state.

Subject Matter:  Marine Sanitation, in three related areas.

1.      Inspection and water testing of existing Shower Facilities at all Beach Swimming areas, in which the drainage leads to the water.

2.      Discussed Section 27-101-412 of the Marine Sanitation Law, which pertains to marina requirements to add sewage pumpout to their facilities.  Some marinas are not applying for grant that need to apply to be compliant; and the need for the committee to inform  them of the law.

Under the Arkansas Marine Sanitation Program: Inspection of vessels at Community and Private docks that have onboard toilets (and vessels that have the appearance of having an onboard toilet) every three years and re-inspection of non-compliant vessels, including incoming new arrivals.  Task includes; Mail-out and notification of inspection to Marinas and vessel owners and conducting the inspection itself.  Both straight and Y-valves leading to penetrations are secured with a special tie-strap, that must not be found disturbed upon the following three year inspection.  This term has found 87% of the vessels inspected in compliant, with approx 15% of the Marinas / Docks that still require inspection.
