First Quarter Report, 2008:
State Boating Law Administrator, Rick Storm, advised that Senate Bill 159 continues to wind its way through the legislature, but there is nothing more to report at this time. SB 159 will reduce the alcohol level for BUI from .10 to .08 which will make it the same for boating as is for driving (in this state) This legislation is sponsored by State Senator Ron Tuppa, as well as others. Senator Tuppa asked Karel Kester, USCG Auxiliary Division Captain, Division One, to testify at a legislative hearing, as an Auxiliarist. Please be advised that Senator Tuppa is a member of Flotilla 01-06 of Loveland, Colorado. He also sponsored legislation enabling a Coast Guard license plate in Colorado and Admiral Allen attended a signing celebration with the Governor of Colorado. The State of Colorado Parks Department announced that Zebra mussels have been found in the waters of Pueblo Reservoir. That is a large dam on the waters of the Arkansas River in Colorado. From there the river flows eastward across southeastern Colorado and eastward across Kansas. We believe that this is the first discovery of Zebra mussels in Colorado. The State will ramp up inspections at this and other reservoirs in Colorado in an effort to prevent the spread of the mussels from proliferating further. The CG Auxiliary may be of assistance with the inspection process. I have been attempting to get an appointment with the BLA to discuss this issue, as well as other issues, and will report when this is done. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Fourth Quarter Report, 2007:
No boating-related legislative activity reported this quarter.
Third Quarter Report, 2007: Nothing from Colorado legislation affecting boating has occurred this year. We keep tuned to the political arena and will report all legislation pertaining to boating. Second Quarter Report, 2007: Admiral Whitehead joined the Colorado Governor for a bill signing ceremony recently that enables the State to issue a personalized Coast Guard license plate. The State Senator that sponsored the legislation just became a member of Auxiliary Flotilla 1-6 at the Flotilla meeting on May 10, 2007. Aside from that, it is business as usual, with our Auxiliary resources being less than the needs of our customers. We continue to work with personnel of the BLA in order to stretch what we have to the best possible use. First Quarter Report, 2007:
No boating-related legislative activity reported this quarter.
