Fourth Quarter Report, 2007:

Illinois may be having a Mandatory Education Initiative coming in 2008.  The Illinois Boating Coalition in conjunction with the BLA is preparing a bill to be presented to the Department of Natural Resources.

Third Quarter Report, 2007:

Legislation regarding BUI as being the same offense as driving a vehicle under the influence didn’t pass this year.

EDUCATION LEGISLATION:  It isn’t quite dead, but we need to have members of the boating coalition (NTSB, Power Squadron, NMMA, Chicago Yacht Club, Boating Federation, and private citizens) write the BLA of Illinois stating why we need mandatory education requirement.  This will be forwarded to their Director of Department of Natural Resources (DNR).  If enough support was expressed, perhaps it would be on the DNR legislative agenda for 2008.  This must be done by October 31, 2007

Second Quarter Report, 2007:

Illinois legislature is in gridlock over the budget with the Governor’s office.  There has been very little activity the past quarter.  An update will be posted on this NLLC website regarding BUI legislation.
