First Quarter Report, 2008:

Legislation has been filed to phase-in a requirement for boating education.  People born after 1991 will be required to have a boating safety certificate to operate a vessel with over 10 HP.  This bill has passed the House committee and will soon be considered on the House floor.

A second bill has been filed to toughen the penalties for boating under the influence of alcohol.  This also passed the committee but is being blocked for a vote pending changes.

Fourth Quarter Report, 2007:

There are no bills filed at this time, but there is discussion by Kentucky Fish & Wildlife to spearhead an effort to toughen penalties for Boating Under the Influence.

Third Quarter Report, 2007:

Our legislature is not in session until January 2008, and, up to this point, no boating legislation is planned.  There is discussion about a proposal to improve a law that allows maritime law enforcement, including U.S. Coast Guard, to issue a citation for littering the waterway, lake, or navigable river.
