Second Quarter Report, 2009:
No recreational boating safety legislation introduced this quarter.
It was interesting to note that at the June 9 meeting of the Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission there was discussion concerning stand-up/stand-on paddle boards, which are a current popular fad. Discussion centered on the item’s category (is it a vessel?, is registration or a launch permit required?) But more importantly, is wearing a life jacket mandatory on this type of watercraft? These issues will be staffed and results will be reported at the next commission meeting.
