Fourth Quarter Report, 2007:

No boating-related legislative activity reported this quarter.

Third Quarter Report, 2007:

Presently, the U.S. Virgin Islands has pending is the U.S. Congress a bill to extend the local fishing waters out to 9 miles, rather then the 3 miles at present.  Also, the local Division of Environmental Enforcement has still not given any boating classes in the past year or more.  Since the passage of Act #6823 "Mandatory Motorboat Education and Safety" Bill, the local DPNR has not fulfilled it's requirements as to the education to the public.  Therefore, flotilla 16-02 has been conducting numerous Boating Safety Classes.  With each class of Instruction I have copied the new local bill and handed it out to the all participants.

Further, the DPNR Boating Officer (Laverne) is going to go to start to go out to different schools (elementary schools). The DPNR still does not have any boating cards to give out and/or the lamination of same, for the Public.

Second Quarter Report, 2007:

The Mandatory Motorboat Education and Safety Bill has not been revised at this time.  Law enforcement officers are enforcing the present law, which places some of the most stringent mandatory PFD wear and education on those in boats.  An effort is being made to amend the law's language.

First Quarter Report, 2007:

Bill 22-0118 increases vessel registration fees and use the proceeds to fund a youth training program in the marine industry.

A boating safety bill has been sent to a Senator for revision/corrections, but no progress has been made.
