First Quarter Report, 2008:
The WV legislature is more than half complete for 2008. One bill was introduced pertaining to Recreational Boating Safety, however, it remains in Committee. The bill, as introduced, would allow boarding officers to board for equipment checks at marinas, at anchor, etc. This bill lacks/lacked supporters. Nothing else pertaining to RBS is being considered at this time.

The WV BLA states that there probably will not be anything new concerning RBS introduced this session. Third Quarter Report, 2007:
Since the West Virginia legislature has not been in session since March 2007, there is little to report. Our District, 8ER, is trying to get a MOU signed by the Director of WV DNR.
Second Quarter Report, 2007: While the WV legislature has adjourned for 2007 without introducing or discussing any legislation pertaining to RBS. Great strides have been made in establishing an avenue of communication with State BLA's office. A draft copy of a much needed MOU has been forwarded to DCO 8ER for comment at this time. This is a great step forward since it has been very difficult to establish any line of communication over the years. Through personal relations with Lt. Tim Coleman on the BLA's office, we have been successful in asking the BLA's office to draft what they think the two organizations can live with. At this time, it appears a MOU/MOA can and will become a reality. First Quarter Report, 2007:
No boating-related legislative activity reported this quarter.
Passed: 4/1/2006 Bill passed which involved livery vessels (vessels you can rent). Now all users of livery vessels must take a 2 hour video safe boating course or have completed a Coast Guard Auxiliary/Power Squadron approved course.
